Remote startup jobs in India: what's on offer and how to get one

Remote hiring in Indian startups didn't disappear after 2022 — it consolidated. A minority of companies are remote-first; most are hybrid with a base city. Knowing which is which saves you a lot of applications.

Three flavours of "remote"

• Remote-first — the company has no expectation of office presence; SigNoz, Skyflow and a number of developer-tool and SaaS companies hire this way, often for India-timezone roles that serve global customers.
• Remote within India — you can live anywhere in India but must be reachable in IST hours and may be asked to travel occasionally. The most common flavour.
• Hybrid with a base city — two or three days in the office. Posted as "Bengaluru (hybrid)". Not remote, whatever the filter says.

On this board, the "Work" filter distinguishes remote, hybrid and on-site, and remote-within-India roles are listed under "India" as the city.

How remote pay is set

Most Indian startups pay remote employees on a single national band, not by city — which makes remote pay attractive if you live outside Bengaluru or Mumbai. A few adjust by location; ask. International remote-first companies hiring in India typically pay above local startup bands.

Making a remote application stand out

Remote teams hire for written communication and self-direction. Your application is the first sample: keep it short, specific and well-structured. Link to something you've written — a design doc, a blog post, a README. In interviews, expect questions about how you handle ambiguity and async work; have real examples.
