Chennai's startup scene is SaaS-heavy — Zoho and Freshworks created a generation of product founders and engineers — plus fintech, logistics and healthtech. Roles are more often engineering and customer success than growth or brand.
Where the startups are
Startup offices in Chennai cluster in OMR (Old Mahabalipuram Road), Guindy, Taramani (Tidel Park) and Perungudi. That matters for two reasons. First, commute: OMR is the tech spine; the Metro's Blue Line covers Guindy and the airport side. Living in Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur or Velachery keeps OMR offices within reach. Second, network: coworking spaces, meetups and the coffee shops around these hubs are where you'll meet the people who refer you into roles that never get posted.
What roles open most often
Across the startups hiring in Chennai right now, the live list beside this article is the honest answer — it updates as roles open and close. In general, funded startups post engineering roles (backend, frontend, mobile, SRE, data) far more often than anything else, followed by product, growth and sales. Design and data roles are fewer and fill fast.
If you're not an engineer, look for the roles startups underpost: customer success, operations, finance and people roles are often filled through referrals before they reach a job board. Reaching a founder or hiring manager directly works better in Chennai than applying cold.
Salaries and offers
Startup pay in India has three parts: fixed salary, variable or bonus, and ESOPs. Fixed is what you should compare across offers; variable is often discretionary and ESOPs are worth exactly what a future liquidity event makes them worth — read our guide to ESOPs before you weigh them.
Lower than Bengaluru, with better food and worse summers. Tamil is helpful for day-to-day life but not required in startup offices.
Only some postings state a salary range. On this board, every featured role must show one, and we surface the stated range next to every role that has it. When a range isn't stated, ask for it in the first call — it's a normal question in 2026.
How to apply
Every role on the board links straight to the company's own application page — no account, no CV upload to us. Read the role guides for the category you're targeting, keep your CV to one page for early-career roles and two for senior ones, and reply to interview scheduling emails within a day; startups move fast and quiet candidates get dropped.
Watch the board
Open startup roles in Chennai change weekly. The Chennai jobs page shows everything open right now, ranked, and the weekly hiring report records how many roles were open each week so you can see whether hiring is picking up or slowing down.
